HANDWOVEN FROM THE INDUS VALLEY
This beautiful basket comes from the Indus Valley in Pakistan, known as the "cradle of civilisation". The Indus Valley civilisation is one of the oldest civilisations in the world. Archaeologists have found Homo sapiens fossils in the region, dating back to 50,000 years ago. As early as 3,000 BC , an urban society known as Indus Civilisation developed here.
DESIGN SIMILARITIES
Our baskets are made using a technique similar to that used by Native Americans in the United States. The technology of the continuously changing basket - making has been cultivated for thousands of years in the village cultures in Africa, North America and in the Indus Valley region in Pakistan. Do you remember the snake in the bobbin basket? Similarities in designs and motifs appear in different cultures because folk art travels as much as people. Over time, cultures are inspired by each other. This happens in both directions and represents a natural development of art. If this does not happen, art dies. Most of our designs therefore represent a fusion of elements that come from traditional South Asian, African and Indian designs.
PLEASE NOTE THAT, it is handmade and unique . Slight deviations in size, design and colour are quite possible.
WEB TECHNOLOGY
This basket is hand-woven by wrapping coloured palm leaves over a wrapped bundle of river grass. The palm leaves are boiled with the appropriate dye in hot water and then used together with other selected leaves to obtain the desired colours. Here you see a very fine changing basket, in which each time the palm leaf is wrapped around the grass wrap, a stitch is made to the previous wrap. The production of such a basket can take many days and, depending on the design, even several weeks.
USE OF THE WRAP BASKETS
Such baskets are traditionally used to serve bread and fruit. Today there are a variety of other uses for these baskets, for example:
- To organise clutter on the desk.
- As a decorative piece on the wall or at the table.
- As a unique gift for anyone interested in handmade art.
ANTIQUE LOOK BASKETS
Many baskets are treated with a secret procedure: immersion in a certain solution, drying, coating with wax, polishing to get glazed matt gloss. We have been producing such polished baskets with an antique look for over five years. The technology is quite time-consuming due to drying and polishing processes.
COLORS
- The illustration shows our range of standard colours in which most of our wicker products are made.
- Ultra bright colours. Some baskets are custom-made in particularly bright colours.
- Polished baskets are subjected to a special waxing and polishing treatment. All materials have been tested and are free of harmful substances.
WARRANTY
The quality of our products is guaranteed. We are happy to provide reference samples of our products for quality control. We accept the return of consignments of different quality in relation to the reference samples at our expense. The prices depend on the shape, size, pattern, colour category and treatment after weaving.
NOT MADE BY NATIVE AMERICAN
Our hand-woven coil basket comes from a rural village in the beautiful Indus Valley region of Pakistan, where artists have woven baskets by hand for generations. A single basket can take weeks to weave, depending on the size, fineness, and design.
This elegant, tightly woven basket was made the traditional way: by wrapping dyed palm leaves over a coiled bundle of river grass, then hand-stitching each wrap to the previous coil. The more wraps and stitches, the finer the basket. Minor imperfections are proof of the weaver’s hand, and the colours will soften with age.
